12 Tantalizing Thanksgiving Recipes You’ll Enjoy

Thanksgiving Recipe Ideas
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, it’s time to prepare for making this year’s festive holiday meal the best ever. To help you plan for this special day with family and friends, we’ve put together our list of 12 top Thanksgiving recipes which we hope you’ll enjoy.

  1. Extra-Savory Turkey – The secret to a savory and mouth-watering turkey is to cook it in an old-fashioned oval roaster which will both braise and roast the turkey at the same time so it stays moist. Uncover the turkey the last 15 minutes to crisp the skin.
  2. Italian Sausage and Bread Stuffing – This rustic and flavorful stuffing adds a rich and spicy touch.
  3. Shredded Brussels Sprouts with Maple Hickory Nuts – Hickory nuts (or walnuts, pecans, or almonds) add a crunchy appeal to this flavorful side dish.
  4. Spinach Salad with Toasted Hazelnuts – This healthy seasonal salad also includes Bosc pears, cranberries, and red onions.
  5. Caramel Pumpkin Pie – This holiday favorite adds a distinctive nutty flavor to the filling thanks to caramelized sugar.
  6. Yukon Gold and Fennel Mashed Potatoes – Roasting the fennel softens its tangy taste and brings out its natural sweetness for a delightfully different flavor.
  7. Cabernet-Cranberry Sauce with Figs – Make this ahead of time to let the flavors develop.
  8. Green Beans with Lemon and Pine Nuts – Just the right amount of lemon juice and lemon zest gives this traditional side dish a unique, but not overpowering, appeal.
  9. Pumpkin Cheesecake with Marshmallow Sour Cream Topping – Unbelievably rich and creamy, this alluring dish just may become your favorite new holiday dessert tradition.
  10. Roasted Sweet Potato Rounds – Fried sage and garlic-infused olive oil add a savory character, balancing the potatoes’ naturally sweet flavor.
  11. Deconstructed Holiday Turkey – Instead of cooking a whole bird, this recipe from Food Network star Ted Allen uses frozen turkey breasts, thighs and drumsticks in savory brine that makes them extra-moist.
  12. Mushroom and Leek Soup – This earthy soup enhanced with thyme cream can be made several days ahead of time and reheated before serving.

Summer Driving Tips for Teens

Driving Tips for Teens

For many American teens, getting a driver’s license is their rite of passage into adulthood. It signifies maturity and a little freedom away from the parents. On the other hand, parents are not elated by the idea of handing the car keys to their teen. With all the tragic news and teen-driving statistics, it’s no wonder parents are nervous about giving teens independence to drive.

Instead of trying to stall your teen’s driving, take the opportunity to teach him or her summer driving do’s and don’ts. The easiest way to teach your teen how to drive responsibly is by setting an example and being the driver you want your teen to be. Here are a few things to remember when driving with your teen:

Get the Car Ready For Summer Driving.

First things first, it’s important to get your Ford ready for summer driving. This will improve your car’s handling and give you a chance to teach your teen car maintenance technicalities. Hot temperatures can be rough on car parts. Taking your Ford for a tune-up will prevent it from breaking down while you’re on the road with your teen.

Make Wearing a Seatbelt a Must

Seatbelts save lives by reducing serious crash-related injuries and deaths by about 50%. Make it a habit to use a seatbelt and encourage all passengers to buckle up no matter how short the trip is. It is easy to forget to wear a seatbelt when you are in a rush. While you can’t control your teen’s driving habits all the time, reiterating the importance of wearing a seatbelt will make a difference.

Discourage Distracted Driving

Distracted driving takes many forms. Although texting and driving is the most common, it is not the only form of distracted driving. Other forms of distracted driving include entertaining multiple passengers, playing loud music or operating the navigation system. Encourage your teen to put all distractions in the back seat and prepare music devices before taking off.

Keep the Speed Limit

Driving at low speeds doesn’t only save lives, it also saves gas. Keeping low speeds can improve your gas mileage by 3.3%. Encourage your teen to slow down. Rapid acceleration and breaking overtime can cause damage on your car parts, resulting in hefty repair costs. Avoid the urge to speed by planning your trips ahead of time.

Setting a good example is the best way to have the biggest impact on your teen’s driving habits. In the midst of summer barbeques and fun by the pool, schedule time to teach your teen responsible driving habits. Also, be sure to get your Ford ready for summer driving. Visit Parks Ford of Wesley Chapel for auto service and repair. To schedule a service appointment, call us at 888-409-3063.

5 Road Trip Essentials

“The journey not the arrival matters.” – T.S. Eliot

Road Trip Tips

Vacation season is upon us! Whether you’re hitting the road this summer with your family, friends or taking a personal trip to a destination of your choosing, it’s important that you pack along the essentials.

One of the best parts of taking a road trip, as the great T.S. Eliot stated, is not necessarily the destination itself, but the journey along the way. Therefore, be sure you are prepared for your journey this summer with these five traveling essentials:

1. Map it out.

With any trip you take, it’s important to plan your route, along with an alternative route in case you come across any detours. If there are certain sight-seeing opportunities along the way, make note and allow for ample travel time. Be sure to pack a map, or have your route tracked out on your smartphone or GPS device.

2. Pack an auto kit.

No matter the distance you will be traveling in your new Ford or used car, always pack along an auto kit. You can purchase auto kits, or create your own. Each “kit” should at least include a tire gauge, jumper cables, flashlight, blanket, jack and lug wrench. In addition to the auto kit, it’s recommended to pack along an emergency first-aid kit. Think safety first!

3. Don’t forget the snacks.

When traveling, don’t forget to pack some snacks and bottles of water. Helping save time and money, bringing along snacks and water can also come in handy in the case of any auto issues that may cause delay. Bring a variety of snacks to help curb your appetite thus eliminating potential stops for fast-food breaks. Water is also essential to help quench your thirst along your journey.

4. Download travel apps.

If you have a smartphone, check out top travel apps that may be helpful as you travel to your vacation spot. From weather, to gas and great places to eat, apps can be an excellent way to keep track of what’s going on around you, as well as the best places to stop along the way to your destination. Don’t forget to pack along electronic device chargers!

5. Create a playlist.

What road trip is complete without a playlist? Since certain parts of your trip may not include the best radio signal, having a mix of your favorite songs is essential.  No matter who you are traveling with on your next road trip, be sure to make a playlist of all of your favorite jams.  Some classic songs include, “Take it Easy,” by the Eagles, “On the Road Again,” by Willie Nelson and “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” by Tom Petty.

No matter where the road takes you in your Ford this summer, don’t forget the essentials! Before you begin your journey, be sure to get your car inspected to ensure it’s in tip-top shape prior to hitting the highway.

Southwest Florida drivers, visit Parks Ford of Wesley Chapel, serving Tampa for all of your service needs. Visit us online to schedule your next service appointment, or call 888-409-3063.

Wherever the road takes you, travel safely and enjoy the ride!
